Blackpool v Newcastle: Key Moments

Written by Newcastle Utd

The big moments from Newcastle's pre-season friendly victory over Blackpool, secured thanks to another Shola Ameobi strike

By Dan King - Newcastle United Digital Editor

Blackpool 0
Newcastle United 1 (Shola Ameobi 5)

SECOND HALF UPDATES (PRESS F5 TO REFRESH)

WHISTLE-MDC-icons90+2mins: After Eccleston shoots wide, Marriner blows his whistle. It's full time here at Bloomfield Road and Newcastle have won 1-0 thanks to Shola Ameobi's early goal. All in all, it was an encouraging performance from the Magpies.

90mins: There will be two minutes added on here - not much considering all the substitutions in this second half, but it is only a friendly.

89mins: A superb turn and clever through ball from Campbell releases Marveaux, who takes a neat touch to race clear and forces Gilks into a fine save. That would have wrapped it up.

86mins: Substitute Eccleston really should equalise as the ball falls to him eight yards out but he smashes over the bar and the ball flies into the packed Newcastle end.

SUB-MDC-icons85mins: A final outfield change for Newcastle - Adam Campbell is on for Yoan Gouffran. Campbell played the full 90 minutes yesterday in the under-21s' 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock and will get another five minutes under his belt here. Blackpool, meanwhile, introduce Jake Caprice for Craig Cathcart.

SUB-MDC-icons81mins: Ince's corner is headed wide by Bishop before more activity on both benches. Mike Williamson comes off with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa on in his place, while the hosts bring Tom Barkhuizen on for the impressive Ince.

SUB-MDC-icons76mins: Yet another change - Isaiah Osborne is on for Angel Martinez and the game has gone a little flat due to all of the substitutions.

SUB-MDC-icons74mins: Another couple of substitutions - Sammy Ameobi is on for Yohan Cabaye, with Steven Taylor taking the armband while Chopra makes way for Neil Bishop.

71mins: Thomas Ince, who has been excellent in this second half, drives a shot just across goal as Taylor slides in to put him off - that was nearly 1-1.

SUB-MDC-icons70mins: After Harris flashes a shot wide for the hosts, Paul Ince makes a triple substitution. Chris Basham, Nathan Eccleston and Massire Kante are on for Kirk Broadfoot, Steven Davies and Barry Ferguson.

62mins: On his Blackpool bow, Chopra has a goal ruled out for offside - that's one apiece now for the two teams - and if that wasn't bad enough for the ex-Newcastle man, the sprinklers then go off on the pitch with poor Chopra getting a soaking as Steven Taylor turns it on his former Magpies team-mate.

SUB-MDC-icons61mins: Both sides make a change - Blackpool replace Bobby Grant with Daylon Claasen while Newcastle introduce Paul Dummett for Davide Santon.

52mins: Ince again wins the ball, this time undoubtedly fairly, from Cabaye and goes for an audacious effort from 50 yards. It's not far away, either, flying just three or four feet over the bar.

49mins: Vuckic is dispossessed by Ince - although it looked like a foul from the Blackpool man - and he fires in a low shot which Elliot drops down to his knees to keep out.

SUB-MDC-iconsWHISTLE-MDC-icons46mins: Blackpool kick off the second half with Haris Vuckic on for Alan Pardew's side at the break in place of goalscorer Ameobi, while the home side are unchanged. This afternoon's attendance is 6,863 with 2,384 of them Newcastle supporters.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons45mins: There is no stoppage time and referee Andre Marriner blows his whistle with Newcastle leading 1-0 at half-time - and deservedly so. This has been no stroll by the seaside but United have been the better side and are in front through Shola Ameobi's third goal in three games. Click here to read the half-time report.

44mins: Newcastle get the ball in the net with a beautifully worked move, but are left frustrated by an assistant referee's flag. Yoan Gouffran's lovelly backheel sent compatriot Moussa Sissoko running through and he finished emphatically, but alas the goal doesn't stand and it looked harsh on the Magpies at first viewing.

41mins: Mathieu Debuchy floats in a cross from the right and Ameobi rises highest, but can't divert his header goalwards.

39mins: Santon streaks down the left and cuts the ball back for Ameobi, who scoops over with a first-time effort from ten yards. The big man was unfortunate not to get a second there.

38mins: The highly-rated Thomas Ince has largely been quiet so far but has started to exert his influence on the game over the last few minutes and drags a shot narrowly wide from 22 yards, although Elliot looked to have it covered.

33mins: Cabaye slides the ball into the path of the overlapping Davide Santon, whose dance into the box is ended by an important tackle but Marveaux latches onto it and his goalbound effort requires a brave block from a tangerine-clad defender to prevent it from flying in.

29mins: Seasiders skipper Barry Ferguson takes a quick free-kick to Michael Chopra, who lays the ball out to Grant on the left. His perfect cross is met by the head of Craig Cathcart and he seems a certain scorer but Elliot makes a fine reaction stop to push it over the bar.

18mins: Cabaye, who has been heavily involved so far this afternoon, steps up to take a free-kick from 25 yards out but his effort doesn't dip in time to prevent it from fizzing over the bar.

17mins: Blackpool attack down the right through Kirk Broadfoot and Steven Taylor fails to intercept his cross, with Bobby Grant stealing in to send a rasping effort inches wide of the target with Rob Elliot rooted to the spot.

16mins: Egged on by the huge contingent of away fans, Cabaye lines up a shot from almost 30 yards but it lacks the power to seriously test Gilks, who scoops the ball up by his near post.

11mins: Yohan Cabaye's delightful ball over the top is controlled expertly by Sylvain Marveaux and he's only denied a clear run on goal by a great last-ditch tackle from Bob Harris.

GOAL-MDC-icons5mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (0-1): The Magpies are in front inside just five minutes and it's that man Shola Ameobi again. He's been on fire so far this summer with two goals in his previous two matches and as the ball drops to him eight yards from goal, he swivels and drives a low finish beyond Matthew Gilks.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons 1min: With Blackpool in tangerine and Newcastle in their navy blue change kit, we're underway at Bloomfield Road with the Magpies attacking towards their own fans in this first half.
