Team news: Youthful Magpies squad kick-off pre-season at Gateshead

Newcastle United kick-off 2023/24 with a friendly at Gateshead on Saturday lunchtime (12:30pm kick-off).

The Magpies make the short trip to the International Stadium to face the National League side, who are managed by former United defender Mike Williamson.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is likely to shuffle his pack in the second half, with a handful of younger players such as Lewis Miley and Remi Savage involved, and the latter named in the starting line-up for his first team debut at centre half.

There is some experience in the visitors' ranks for their first outing of the summer, with Kieran Trippier, Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin and Dan Burn all starting, along with Sean Longstaff, Elliot Anderson and Jamal Lewis.

Karl Darlow will line-up in goal, with Matt Targett and Javier Manquillo also in the side to face their non-league neighbours.

Both Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie provide goalkeeping backup, with Harrison Ashby, Alex Murphy and Charlie Wiggett the defensive reinforcements.

Joe White, Jamie Miley, Jay Turner-Cooke, Ben Parkinson and Michael Ndiweni may also feature after the break, along with teenage midfielder Miley.

Please note that the squad numbers worn by Howe's side are still subject to change ahead of the new campaign.
