Team news: Anderson and Barnes return

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes both return to Newcastle’s starting XI against Tottenham as the Magpies look to secure back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time in 2024.

The pair come in for Lewis Hall and Joe Willock, with the latter – as anticipated – not making the squad. Hall, however, is named among United’s list of substitutes.

For Anderson – influential in the run-up to Bruno Guimarães’ winning goal at Fulham last time out – it’ll be an eighth appearance in all competitions since the injury lay-off which robbed him of four months of the campaign.

As for Barnes, who also played his part in Bruno’s decider at Craven Cottage, it’s still just a fourth ever start for Newcastle at St. James’ Park, with the wide-man having had to contend with an injury-disrupted season of his own.

Dan Burn, part of an experienced-looking backline, captains Eddie Howe’s charges against Spurs.

Tino Livramento – who hasn’t figured since coming off in the 56th minute of last month’s stunning victory over West Ham at St. James’ – is included on the bench.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, Emil Krafth, Fabian Schär, Dan Burn, Jacob Murphy, Bruno Guimarães, Sean Longstaff, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak.

Substitutes: Loris Karius, Mark Gillespie, Tino Livramento, Alex Murphy, Paul Dummett, Lewis Hall, Matt Ritchie, Joe White, Ben Parkinson.
