Loan Watch: Vuckic Nets Debut Goal

Written by Newcastle Utd

Haris Vuckic made a goalscoring debut for Rangers on Sunday as he began his loan spell at Ibrox

Haris Vuckic made a goalscoring debut for Rangers on Sunday, but the Scottish giants slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

The Slovenian international forward was one of five Newcastle United players to move to Ibrox on loan last week, and started the fifth round tie along with fellow Magpie Remie Streete.

While centre-back Streete limped off just before half-time with an injury, Vuckic had a better afternoon, playing the full match and netting in the 62nd minute.

Found on the left-hand side of the area by Kyle Hutton, he took a touch before drilling across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

That cancelled out Ryan Conroy's free-kick but Raith grabbed the winner with 15 minutes remaining through Christian Nade.

The remaining three Newcastle loanees - Gael Bigirimana, Shane Ferguson and Kevin Mbabu - all missed out through injury.

Elsewhere, Davide Santon made his league bow for Inter Milan on Sunday in a 3-0 home win over Palermo.

The full-back, wearing the number 21 shirt, played the full 90 minutes at the San Siro stadium for Roberto Mancini's men, who currently sit tenth in the table.

In France, fit-again Sylvain Marveaux was an unused substitute as Guingamp triumphed 1-0 over Monaco in Ligue 1 action.

Back in England, Karl Darlow returned to the Nottingham Forest starting line-up for their Championship fixture at Brighton - new boss Dougie Freedman's first match in charge.

And it was a winning start for the Scot, as Forest triumphed 3-2 at the Amex Stadium, with Darlow making a number of key stops to help secure maximum points.

Jamaal Lascelles was also involved, coming off the substitutes' bench in the 89th minute to help see out the closing stages.

Finally, Adam Campbell started for Gateshead in their FA Trophy tie against Wrexham, but the Heed bowed out of the competition following a penalty shoot-out at the International Stadium.

Campbell played 72 minutes of the fixture, which finished 2-2, and with the teams unable to be separated during extra-time, Wrexham won it from the spot.

Callum Roberts was not involved for the Conference side.
