Dan Langley, who made his senior Magpies bow last Sunday with Karl Darlow, Mark Gillespie and Freddie Woodman unavailable, continues in goal with 16-year-old Max Thompson his deputy.
The defence consists of Jacob Murphy, Jamal Lewis, Paul Dummett and skipper Jamaal Lascelles, while Isaac Hayden looks the most likely candidate to join the back line should Bruce deploy wing-backs as expected.
Sean Longstaff starts alongside Jeff Hendrick in midfield, with Ryan Fraser and Saint-Maximin supporting Callum Wilson.
