Team news: Kenedy returns

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Kenedy returns to Newcastle United’s starting line-up after a three-week absence as the Magpies host fellow Premier League side Watford in the Fourth Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Brazilian sat out last week’s win over Cardiff City through illness – having previously overcome a foot injury – but, like fellow South American Federico Fernández, he has been passed fit for today’s game.

Fernández joins Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark in the heart of the backline, with Javier Manquillo and Matt Ritchie likely to start as wing backs.

Youngster Sean Longstaff again joins Isaac Hayden in the engine room, with Kenedy and Jacob Murphy providing support to lone frontman Joselu.

A strong-looking bench includes Fabian Schär and Ayoze Pérez, who – between them – notched all of United’s goals against the Bluebirds, and Salomón Rondón.

Newcastle United: Freddie Woodman, Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernández, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Kenedy, Joselu.

Substitutes: Martin Dúbravka, DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schär, Christian Atsu, Ayoze Pérez, Salomón Rondón.
