Team news: Almirón starts final friendly against Norwich

Miguel Almirón will return to Newcastle United’s starting line-up for their final pre-season friendly against Norwich City on Saturday (2pm kick-off).

The Paraguayan international, who returned to Tyneside recently following his exploits with his country in the Copa America, will line-up in the middle of the park for the Magpies as they look to finish their preparations for 2021/22 on a high.

Freddie Woodman will again start in goal at St. James’ Park, with the Canaries’ forward line tasked with breaking down a backline comprising of Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie at wing-back, with Emil Krafth, Federico Fernández and Ciaran Clark forming a central defensive trio.

Almirón starts further forward alongside Sean Longstaff, with Isaac Hayden anchoring the midfield.

And Joelinton will provide support for the latest owner of the famous number nine shirt, Callum Wilson, in attack.

Jonjo Shelvey, who returned from injury this week, is named among the substitutes, along with fellow midfielders Matty Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick.

There are plenty of options further forward on the bench, with Allan Saint-Maximin, Ryan Fraser and Dwight Gayle all included.

Mark Gillespie, Dan Langley, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schär, Kell Watts and Jamal Lewis provide the defensive reinforcements as Steve Bruce’s side look for a final win to round of pre-season.
