SECOND HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons90+4mins: Full-time and Newcastle gain what could be a useful point, but remain very much in the relegation mix after a 0-0 draw. Papiss Cisse's shot which may have crossed the line but wasn't given is the main talking point but one got the feeling that the Magpies came for a point and got it. It sets up next week's match at Queens Park Rangers nicely, but that truly is a must-win game for Alan Pardew's side.

90mins: There will be four minutes of stoppage time.

89mins: Collins makes a block but the ball cannons straight to Gosling, who scuffs his effort from the edge of the box wide.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons87mins: Tiote is booked for a foul on Joe Cole just outside the box. Cole takes the free-kick himself - it evades everybody as Elliot appears to be wiped out and cracks back off the post. It falls to Nolan of all people, eight yards from goal, but as black and white shirts fly in the former Magpies captain shoots wide.

SUB-MDC-icons83mins: Joe Cole is on for the dangerous Jarvis in Sam Allardyce's final change of the day.

81mins: Gary O'Neill's left-wing corner is met by Carroll's head but it's a weak effort and is blocked before United scramble the ball clear.

SUB-MDC-icons80mins: Guy Demel is replaced by Matt Taylor for the home side.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons77mins: Captain Coloccini is booked - presumably for something he said to the referee - after Gosling concedes a free-kick.

SUB-MDC-icons76mins: Dan Gosling is coming on for Newcastle in place of Gouffran. Earlier this week, the man who scored several key goals for Everton told nufc.co.uk that he felt he had an important strike in him this season - could this be the day he gets it?

74mins: Ameobi's eyes light up as he brings the ball down and lets fly from just outside the box but his drive flashes agonisigly wide.

73mins: James Collins' long, diagonal free-kick causes problems for United and after Tiote fails to clear his lines, Carroll pounces, turns neatly and cracks in a shot which Elliot does well to beat away at his near post.

71mins: Today's attendance is 34,962, with Newcastle selling out their allocation of 2,000.

68mins: Cheick Tiote's ball over the top brings Jaaskelainen rushing needlessly from his goal and Yoan Gouffran is able to take the ball around him but, from an acute angle, his clipped shot drops just the wrong side of the far post.

SUB-MDC-icons66mins: Shola Ameobi replaces Ben Arfa in Newcastle's first change of the afternoon.

65mins: An astonishing passage of play goes by with West Ham somehow not scoring. First, Nolan crosses from the right and Carroll falls under Danny Simpson's challenge, but Dowd waves away home appeals. The ball is then played back into the centre where Nolan is twice denied by a stunning double-save from Elliot, then the goalkeeper tips a stinging effort from Jarvis around the post.

SUB-MDC-icons59mins: Vaz Te's number is up as Jack Collison comes on in his place.

57mins: Diame crosses from the left and Carroll meets it, but again he can't get a clean header in and sends the ball looping over.

54mins: Ben Arfa sends a free-kick too close to the Hammers keeper after winning a free-kick 22 yards out. When he's got the ball, the number ten has been a danger to the home side but there wasn't much to threaten them there.

52mins: Jarvis has been a threat so far in this half and from another dangerous cross, Vaz Te goes for it and takes a tumble in the box. The home fans scream for a penalty but Phil Dowd ignores them.

51mins: Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa makes an eye-catching run from left-back and pokes the ball to Cabaye, who is in a central position 25 yards from goal. The midfielder unleashes a piledriver which flies just wide with Jaaskelainen beaten.

50mins: After Diame's progress is halted out on the left, Matt Jarvis clips the ball high for Carroll to meet but the former Newcastle number nine heads wide at the far post under some pressure.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons46mins: There are no changes for either side at the start of this second half as Newcastle take kick-off through Papiss Cisse and Yohan Cabaye.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons45+1mins: It's half-time and Newcastle will be relatively pleased with their performance. West Ham have offered little threat to the Magpies goal and it was Alan Pardew's side who thought they'd scored when Cisse's shot was hacked off the line by Winston Reid. It's still 0-0 though and anybody's game.

45mins: There will be just one minute of stoppage time at the end of a rather uneventful first half.

44mins: There has been precious little to report in the previous 20 minutes but on the stroke of half time, Kevin Nolan puts the ball in the net from Andy Carroll's cross. However, Carroll was offside as he received the ball and the flag rightly goes up.

24mins: As Newcastle doggedly defend a corner and then play their way out of trouble, Cabaye prods the ball to Ben Arfa just inside the West Ham half and the Frenchman drives at the defence. Three men back off and he makes space for a shot but there's not enough power to beat the home keeper.

21mins: Yohan Cabaye plays a lovely slide-rule pass which splits the Hammers' defence and Papiss Cisse pokes the ball past Jaaskelainen. It rolls towards goal at agonising speed and looks like it's going in before Winston Reid gets back to sweep it off the line just before it crosses. It may even have crossed but no goal is given. It's still 0-0 but that was by some distance the closest we've come to a goal and Newcastle would have just about deserved it.

17mins: O'Brien looks up and swings a glorious cross into the box for Vaz Te, who sends a diving header wide but the flag goes up against the Portuguese striker, who had a knack of scoring against Newcastle at Reserve team level during his time at Bolton.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons9mins: The game's first yellow card goes to Joey O'Brien, who slides in late on Steven Taylor as the Magpies man charges down the right. Hatem Ben Arfa steps up to take the resulting free-kick and, from a difficult angle, whips it inches over the bar with Jussi Jaaskelainen backpedalling.

6mins: Ricardo Vaz Te pokes the ball through to Mohamed Diame, who lets the ball run across his body but blazes over the bar from just inside the area.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons1min: Heavy pre-match rain has subsided and instead it's bubbles which fill the sky as the teams emerge from the tunnel, with Newcastle in black and white and the Hammers in their claret and blue kits. The home side take kick-off, attacking towards the Bobby Moore Stand in the first period.
