Steve McClaren has made one change to his Newcastle United starting line-up for their pre-season friendly against Sacramento Republic (8pm kick-off local time, 4am kick-off GMT).

Winger Gabriel Obertan comes into the the Magpies side as the only alteration from the team which suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Mexican outfit Club Atlas on Tuesday in Milwaukee.

Obertan replaces French forward Yoan Gouffran, who drops down to the substitutes' bench at Bonney Field.

United are expected to again line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with goalkeeper Tim Krul behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Jamaal Lascelles and Massadio Haidara.

Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback will anchor the visitors' midfield, with the latter wearing the captain's armband for the third successive game of pre-season.

In front of them, Moussa Sissoko, Siem de Jong and Obertan will provide the ammunition for last season's top scorer, Papiss Cisse, who leads the line for the Magpies.

Joining Gouffran among the replacements there is a place for new signing, Dutch international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, while the likes of Ayoze Perez, Rolando Aarons and Mehdi Abeid will also be hoping for game time.
