Lewis Miley's second half equaliser earned Newcastle United Under-18s a 2-2 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

United, who went close early on through Kyle Crossley, saw Wolves hit the upright at Little Benton as Nathan Fraser's low effort came back off the woodwork 11 minutes in.

But after Crossley was brought down in the box just before the half hour, the Magpies winger picked himself up to dispatch the penalty as give the hosts the lead.

After a foul on Tyler Roberts, Dylan Charlton was shown a straight red card, reducing the Magpies to ten men just a couple of minutes after they had netted the opener.

And after Ben Parkinson conceded a penalty with a challenge on Roberts, the Wolves man beat Max Thompson from the spot to level the scores six minutes before the break.

On 50 minutes, the visitors moved in front against the ten men, with Josh Nicholson’s inadvertent own goal giving them a 2-1 lead.

Just after the hour, though, United levelled through Miley, who was on hand to score after Crossley had been denied what would have been his second of the day.

The point, just Newcastle’s second of 22, means United stay rooted in 14th place, five points behind Friday's opponents Stoke City with a game in hand.

Team: Max Thompson, Lucas Cooper (Beau Beresford 86), Dylan Charlton, Jamie Miley, Harry Powell, Harry Barclay, Ben Parkinson, Ellis Stanton, Kyle Crossley, Lewis Miley, Johnny Emerson (Josh Nicholson 32).

Subs n/u: Steven Bessent, Shaun Mavididi, Liam Chrystal.
