Louis Salkeld’s late strike condemned Newcastle United Under-18s to a derby-day defeat at the hand of Sunderland on Saturday.
Salkeld’s winner in injury time handed the young Magpies’ local rivals a 1-0 victory at Little Benton, with the visitors also rattling the woodwork twice when the scoreline was level at 0-0.
The result leaves United in 12th place in the Under-18 Premier League’s northern section, though they are just three points shy of seventh-placed Burnley.
Newcastle now face back-to-back Premier League Cup clashes away at Leeds United on Tuesday, 23rd November and at home to Southampton on Saturday, 27th November.
