Newcastle United Women 5 Wallsend BC Women Reserves 0
Newcastle United Women are through to the semi-finals of the Bluefin Sport Insurance Women's Cup after a comfortable victory over Wallsend BC Women Reserves on Sunday.
Katie Barker scored four goals with Kacie Elson also on target as the Lady Magpies attempt to retain the trophy they won in 2018/19; the competition was cancelled last season as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Elson had already seen an effort cleared off the line before she opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Georgia Gibson won possession and provided a perfect cross.
And Gibson was the provider again as Barker got her first goal in the 19th minute, the midfielder seeing her free kick well saved but the forward following in to force home the rebound.
Barker made it 3-0 with her second in the 28th minute before she completed her hat-trick seven minutes later.
And the fifth arrived in the 71st minute when substitute Imogen Longcake's fine solo run presented Barker with the opportunity to score once more, which she duly took.
Becky Langley's side will now face Alnwick Town Ladies next month for a place in the final, while Wallsend BC Women's first team take on Cullercoats Ladies in the other semi-final.
