Newcastle are presented with one final opportunity to push forward, but Ritchie's cross in from deep down the right wing fails to pick out a team-mate in front of goal and the visitors are able to hold on. That should be that.

Huge opportunity for Diame to win the game for Newcastle! A curling corner flies into the heart of the Liverpool box and somehow manages to bounce into the path of Diame. It seems to take the midfielder by surprise but he's just about able to get a shot away, and it's one that deflects into the hands of Mignolet.

What a chance for Oxlade-Chamberlain to make it 2-1! A lofted pass bounces down the left wing and manages to pick out Moreno. The Spaniard is just about able to keep the ball in play before volleying a cross over to Solanke, who pulls off another diving header but, once again, can't quite hit the target.

It's all Liverpool at the moment as they pile plenty of bodies forward, but they can't quite find a way through Newcastle's stubborn back line. Matip is playing almost as a deep-lying centre-forward at times, but he's only able to poke an attempted pass straight into the hands of Elliot.

Solanke goes close! A lovely chipped cross from Coutinho curls right onto the head of Solanke in the heart of the hosts' penalty area, but, despite his best efforts, the striker can't quite hit the target with his diving header.

Wijnaldum is clattered into by Hayden, resulting in a free-kick for Liverpool midway inside the Newcastle half of the pitch. It's chipped in by Coutinho and heads towards Solanke, who's easily beaten to the ball in the air by Clark.

A dangerous cross from Moreno flies into the middle of the Newcastle box and manages to pick out Matip in a great position, but the defender can't quite make decent contact with the ball and denies himself the chance to shoot.

Gomez causes problems over on the right flank once again as he beats his marker and cuts inside. He then tries to pick out Solanke at the near post, but Lascelles is just about able to get a boot to the ball at the vital moment.

Gomez swings a dangerous cross into the heart of the Newcastle penalty area and towards the head of Solanke, who rises high but can't quite reach the ball ahead of the outstretched limbs of Elliot.

It's proving to be a bit of a disappointing afternoon for Sturridge, who is battling hard up front but can't quite find any joy in front of goal. Once again, he bursts through the Newcastle defence and latches onto a clever pass forward, but his run is mistimed and he's flagged offside.

Newcastle are able to push forward on an attacking move over on the left flank, which they do so through Javi Manquillo. The full-back cuts inside and tries to pick out Ritchie over on the opposite wing, but his cross-field pass is overhit and sails behind for a goal-kick.

Sturridge goes close again! Salah sets up Sturridge with another clever pass through the hosts' defence and into the penalty area, but this time the striker's run forward is slightly mistimed and the linesman's flag is quickly raised.

Almost a chance for Sturridge! Salah chips a lovely pass over the top of the Newcastle back line and into the box, where Sturridge tries to rush onto it. He manages to beat Lascelles and goes one-on-one with Elliot, but the goalkeeper rushes out to deal with the danger at the vital moment.

Sturridge and Coutinho link up well over on the left flank, setting up the Brazilian to send a cross into the box. It's hit long and fired over to Salah, who sticks out a foot but can't quite latch onto the ball at the far post.

The free-kick initially fails to result in a chance on goal for the hosts, but Liverpool aren't quite able to clear the danger and Newcastle push forward once again. The ball pinballs around the penalty area dangerously, but, despite their best efforts, no one's able to get a shot away from close range and the Reds hold on.

Space opens up for Perez, allowing him to charge down the right wing on a marauding run. He manages to get himself into a good position before being clattered into by Moreno, resulting in a free-kick for Newcastle in a promising position.

Ouch! Joselu and Mane battle for the ball over on the right flank, leaving the Spaniard in a heap on the floor and being landed on by the attacking midfielder. The striker has a huge gash on his side, but the coming together was accidental and the game quickly gets underway once again.

Two big chances for Liverpool to re-take the lead! Clark fails to clear the ball on the edge of the Newcastle penalty area and allows it to bounce through to Sturridge. Elliot saves the striker's first-time effort before Salah unleashes a quick follow-up shot, but it's rushed and sails high over the crossbar.

Salah and Coutinho link up well on the edge of the Newcastle penalty area before the latter spins and crosses, but Atsu is easily able to get a head on the ball before it can pick out a red shirt in front of goal.

We're underway once again!

Liverpool push forward on what could prove to be their final attack of the first half, but they're unable to do much with it as Mane's cross in from the left flank deflects back off him and behind for a goal-kick.

The fourth official has indicated that there will be two minutes of added time.

Liverpool are continuing to dominate possession, but Newcastle are sitting deep and doing well to soak up the pressure being put on them. Mane and Salah have found it hard to get involved in the game, with the Senegal international being particularly quiet.

Liverpool move the ball from one flank to the other as they try to find a way back into the Newcastle penalty area. Mane eventually pokes a pass into the box and towards Alberto Moreno, but Ritchie is just about able to get to it ahead of the on-rushing full-back.

Lovren goes down inside the penalty area, but nothing is given! Liverpool win themselves a corner, which is swung into a dangerous area inside the box. Lovren darts towards the ball and almost reaches it, but he's dragged to the ground by Clark before he's able to do so. The Croatian immediately screams for a penalty, but the referee isn't at all interested and tells him to get back to his feet.

Sturridge breaks down the left wing and does well to reach the edge of the Newcastle box, where he's brought down by Ritchie and wins Liverpool a free-kick. The cross in from the set-piece is a good one and almost picks out Matip, but he's put under pressure well and the ball is nodded behind for another corner.

Salah penetrates the right-hand side of the hosts' box on a lovely run and looks set to shoot, but Clark does well to poke the ball behind for another corner. This time Coutinho isn't able to pick out a team-mate with his cross into the penalty area, as it's well dealt with by the home side.

Space opens up Gomez and allows the youngster to dart down the right flank before swinging a cross into the heart of the Newcastle penalty area. There's nobody there to meet it, however, allowing Lascelles to easily clear the danger.

What a goalmouth scramble! A better ball in from Gomez causes problems for Ciaran Clark, who is just about able to poke the ball behind for a corner. Philippe Coutinho's cross finds Georginio Wijnaldum, who hits the post with his side-footed strike. The ball then pinballs around dangerously as three players all try to find the back of the net, but none are able to and Newcastle just about manage to hold on.

Gomez is seeing plenty of the ball over on the right flank, but he's struggling to do much with it in advanced areas. Not for the first time today, he swings in a cross from deep down the wing but sends it behind for a goal-kick before he can pick out a team-mate.

Vital interception by Yedlin! A Newcastle attacking move breaks down, allowing Salah to fly forward on a blisteringly quick counter-attack. The Egyptian bursts towards the box and looks set to test Rob Elliot, but Yedlin darts across the penalty area and does really well to dispossess the winger before he can shoot.

The visitors keep pushing forward as they try to find a way in front. Joe Gomez bursts down the right wing and then swings a deep cross over to the far post, where Mane tries to get a shot away from a tight angle but can't hit the target.

Liverpool move the ball around nicely on the edge of the Newcastle penalty area before Daniel Sturridge is eventually able to get a shot away. It's well blocked by Lascelles though, as the captain makes sure he gets his entire body in the way of the striker's effort.

More good play by Liverpool sets up Ritchie to get a shot away from just outside of the visitors' box. His effort is well hit, but Mignolet is able to get plenty of his body behind it.

Yedlin picks up the ball deep down the right flank and this time manages to swing a cross into the middle of the Liverpool penalty area, but Dejan Lovren is there to easily clear the danger with a diving header.

Shelvey launches a lovely lofted pass over to the right flank that picks out Matt Ritchie in a pocket of space. The winger brings the ball down nicely and tries to play a quick one-two with DeAndre Yedlin, but the American's pass back is poor and rolls out for a throw-in.

Jamal Lascelles bursts into the Liverpool half of the pitch at the end of another good piece of play from the home side. He then unleashes an audacious strike from 30 yards out, but it's comfortably saved by Mignolet in the middle of the goal.

Christian Atsu breaks down the left wing and finds himself in a pocket of space just outside of the Liverpool penalty area. He cuts inside and knocks the ball back to Jonjo Shelvey, who quickly shoots but can only curl his effort straight into the hands of Simon Mignolet.

After an even start to the game from both sides, it's Liverpool who push forward on the first attack of the game. Mohamed Salah charges through the middle of the pitch before teeing up Sadio Mane with a beautiful pass over to the left-hand side of the Newcastle box. The Senegal international then tries to find Salah once again, but his ball across the penalty area is misplaced and can't pick him out.
