Diame spoke to NUFC TV in midweek and admitted that he felt he was starting to show why Newcastle had bought him. He certainly did that just now; Hayden broke up play and exchanged passes with Diame, who took a touch into the box and slotted home. A great goal from the former Wigan man, who opts not to celebrate against his old club. The away fans behind that goal certainly are, though!

Mohamed Diame, back on his old stomping ground, must have thought he'd scored with a great 20 yard strike but Jaaskelainen pushed it around the post and the corner was dealt with in the end - although Dwight Gayle almost connected with an overhead kick.

It's been a really bright start from the Magpies, who have passed the ball well and forced a couple of corners. The away fans are getting right behind the team as they've responded in the opening five minutes - although there's no goal to show for it yet.
