Newcastle United youngsters Macaulay Gillesphey and Alex Gilliead tested themselves against Barclays Premier League opposition on Sunday in the FA Cup.

The duo, who are on loan at Carlisle United until the end of the season, entertained Everton at Brunton Park in the fourth round of the famous cup competition.

Gillesphey started on the left-hand side of the Cumbrians' defence before being withdrawn at half-time, while forward Gilliead was introduced at the interval and caused the Toffees' defence some problems.

However, Everton ultimately were too strong for their League Two opponents, running out 3-0 winners.

Back in league action, Sammy Ameobi claimed an assist as Cardiff City secured a 3-2 victory at Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

The wide man played the full 90 minutes at the John Smith's Stadium, teeing up Lex Immers for a simple finish just after the hour mark - the Bluebirds' second goal of the afternoon.

The three points keep Cardiff in the hunt for the play-offs.

In League One, Haris Vuckic continued his return to full fitness with a fourth successive appearance for Wigan Athletic.

The Slovenian schemer started for the high-flying Latics and played 62 minutes of a 3-0 home victory over Port Vale on Saturday.

Fellow promotion hopefuls Coventry City suffered a dent to their charge with a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United.

Midfielder Gael Bigirimana and striker Adam Armstrong started for the Sky Blues, and while the former was replaced at half-time, the latter netted his 17th goal of a fantastic campaign from the penalty spot late on.

Finally, in League Two, Kyle Cameron played the full 90 minutes of a crucial victory for basement club York City.

The left-sided defender was a key part of the 2-1 triumph over Stevenage at Bootham Crescent, which was sealed by an injury-time strike.

Fellow Magpie Lubo Satka was an unused substitute for the Minstermen.
