United Face Foxes Trip In FA Cup

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle will travel to Premier League rivals Leicester City in the third round of the FA Cup

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Newcastle United will travel to Premier League rivals Leicester City in the third round of the FA Cup.

The draw was made on Monday night and saw the Magpies and Foxes drawn together at The King Power Stadium, with the tie being played on the first weekend in January.

It is another away tie for United, who are yet to play a cup game at home this season en route to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.

In fact, it is the 24th time from the last 33 FA Cup and League Cup ties that Newcastle have come out of the hat as the away team - a 73 per cent away tie record

In the FA Cup by itself, it is nine away ties out of the last 11.

When the teams met earlier in the season in league action at St. James' Park, Gabriel Obertan's second-half strike earned Newcastle a 1-0 win - their first victory of the season - and set Alan Pardew's side off on a run of six successive victories.
