Gabriel Obertan is the Newcastle United Wonga Player of the Month for October, as voted for by the supporters.

The French winger, 25, is currently recovering from injury after suffering a thigh injury in this month's 1-0 win over Liverpool.

But he was in superb form in October, setting up a goal for Papiss Cisse in the 2-2 draw at Swansea before scoring the only goal of the game as Alan Pardew's side beat Leicester.

That was United's first victory of the season and it kick-started Newcastle's campaign as the Magpies have won each of their last six matches.

Obertan told nufcTV: "I had a good month and I was happy with the performance of the team.

"It's great for my mental confidence because it's been tough for me, the last two weeks because of surgery and everything. But it's great to have the support of the fans."

Supporter Jordan Goodrich from Stanley won the chance to present the award to Obertan at the Newcastle United Training Centre. He also received a signed Wonga Player of the Month pennant.

Wonga will be running competitions every month throughout the season, so check out the Wonga Football fan hub regularly for your opportunity to win some great prizes.
