Coloccini Ruled Out Of R's Clash

Written by Newcastle Utd

Alan Pardew has provided an injury update on his squad, including Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Captain Fabricio Coloccini has been ruled out of Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

The Argentine centre-back hobbled off in the closing stages of United's 2-0 win at West Bromwich Albion a fortnight ago with a calf complaint and joins winger Rolando Aarons, midfielder Cheick Tiote, full-back Davide Santon, midfielder Gabriel Obertan and summer signing Siem de Jong on the treatment table.

Boss Alan Pardew revealed defender Steven Taylor also remains "a big doubt" for the weekend's game, having missed the trip to The Hawthorns, but has tipped Paul Dummett and Mike Williamson to successfully fill any gaps in the Magpies' rearguard.

"We've suffered some injuries, managed to repair the squad somewhat but we are still missing one or two for Saturday, which is a shame," said Pardew.

"Aarons won't be available, Cheick Tiote won't be available, Coloccini is not going to play and Steven Taylor is probably a big doubt as well.

"So we are short at centre-back but we have good cover there. Paul Dummett has done brilliantly for us and there is a good chance he will play in there again. If he carries on like he has, we will be absolutely fine.

"You would really be kicking yourself if you were on the back of five defeats, losing your captain and the other first-choice centre-half, but we have a good replacement in Williamson.

"He has been a great servant for us and our player of the year last season in a lot of respects, so there's no worries with him."
