Loan Watch: Forest Back To Winning Ways

Written by Newcastle Utd

A round-up of Newcastle United's loanees who were in action across Europe at the weekend

Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles helped Nottingham Forest get back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Norwich City in the Championship on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Darlow, aged 24, was beaten by Jonny Howson's first-half effort but Stuart Pearce's men fought back late on, with leading scorer Britt Assombalonga and winger Michail Antonio netting in the final five minutes to hand Forest their first win in ten outings and keep them just one point behind their weekend opponents, lying in 11th place in the second tier.

Like his teammate and fellow loanee, Lascelles played the full 90 minutes for the Reds.

In the FA Cup first round, after extending his loan spell at Port Vale for another two months, Remie Streete was on the pitch throughout as Robert Page's side bowed out of the competition, losing by the odd goal in seven at home to Milton Keynes Dons.

The 20-year-old, who linked up with the Valiants early last month, was powerless to prevent a double from Benik Afobe and strikes from Carl Baker and Danny Green giving the Dons a 4-3 win at Vale Park, with Danny N'Guessan's brace and Jordan Spence's own goal for the hosts rendered meaningless.

Young United striker Jonathyn Quinn, meanwhile, didn't make it off the bench in Blyth Spartan's 4-1 FA Cup victory against Altrincham at Croft Park.

Quinn, who grabbed his first goal for the Spartans against Curzon Ashton last month, will hope to feature in the second round as he remains on a work experience loan at the Northern Premier League outfit.

Elsewhere, Burnley recorded their first Barclays Premier League win of the season over Hull City at the weekend, with Hatem Ben Arfa unable to inspire a Tigers comeback after his 59th-minute introduction at Turf Moor.

Further afield, Sylvain Marveaux's Guingamp went down 3-1 to Lyon in their Ligue 1 clash on Sunday while fellow Frenchman Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was part of the Roma side who overcame the challenge of Torino with a 3-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A.
