Alan Pardew has named an unchanged starting XI for this afternoon's Barclays Premier League clash at Aston Villa.

That means there's no place for Siem de Jong, who has trained all week, but the former Ajax captain is on the bench and is likely to be introduced at some point.

Newcastle played well despite defeat in their opening game against Manchester City and the team is again expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with goalkeeper Tim Krul protected by a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett.

Vurnon Anita and Jack Colback will continue their midfield partnership behind Moussa Sissoko, Remy Cabella and Yoan Gouffran.

Emmanuel Riviere will again be the main striker.

On the substitutes' bench alongside De Jong are Rob Elliot, Massadio Haidara, Steven Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan and Ayoze Perez.

Villa are also unchanged from their win over Stoke last weekend, with former Newcastle man Charles N'Zogbia included in their team.

Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Brad Guzan; Alan Hutton, Ron Vlaar, Philippe Senderos, Aly Cissokho; Fabian Delph, Ashley Westwood; Andreas Weimann, Kieran Richardson, Charles N'Zogbia; Gabby Agbonlahor

Substitutes: Shay Given, Nathan Baker, Leandro Bacuna, Joe Cole, Carlos Sanchez, Jack Grealish, Darren Bent

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran; Emmanuel Riviere

Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Massadio Haidara, Steven Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan, Siem de Jong, Ayoze Perez

Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)
