Written by Newcastle Utd

While Mehdi Abeid and Romain Amalfitano had a break due the lack of festive football in Greece and France, all of Newcastle United's British-based loanees saw action on Sunday.

In the Championship, Shane Ferguson made his first appearance in six outings for Birmingham. He came from the bench after 76 minutes of their 3-2 win at Blackburn.

Meanwhile Dan Gosling played the whole game as Blackpool lost 1-0 at home to Brighton.

Also completing 90 minutes was Conor Newton as St. Mirren drew 1-1 with Hearts in the Scottish Premier League.

In League One, James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic both started for Rotherham at Port Vale. Tavernier played 90 minutes and won a penalty for his side, but Kieran Agard's spot-kick was saved, while Vuckic was withdrawn after 59 minutes of a 2-0 defeat for the Millers.

And Michael Richardson played the full match as Accrington drew 1-1 with Southend in League Two. It was his first start in five games.
