Gabby's Glee At Gouffran Grab

Written by Newcastle Utd

Gabriel Obertan has played with Yoan Gouffran before and told nufc.co.uk that the Magpies have bagged themselves a star

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Gabriel Obertan believes Newcastle have bagged themselves a star in new signing Yoan Gouffran.

The duo played together for a season at Bordeaux from the summer of 2008, as the Ligue 1 outfit challenged for the title, so Obertan has first-hand experience of the forward's quality.

Now reunited on Tyneside following Gouffran's switch earlier this week, Obertan believes his pal will be instrumental in helping United climb the Premier League table.

"I played for a year with Yoan at Bordeaux and I really enjoyed it," Obertan told nufc.co.uk.

"He's a very good player and I'm really glad he's here at Newcastle.

"I have watched some of the games he played in France and he has done really well in the first half of the season for Bordeaux.

"He is a powerful, explosive forward who is really quick.

"His pace is his main quality and he will be a real asset for us this year. Hopefully he will do well in the second half of the season."
