Derek Llambias

"Stability" was the key factor in Newcastle United's decision to offer eight-year contracts to manager Alan Pardew and his coaching team of John Carver, Steve Stone and Andy Woodman according to Managing Director Derek Llambias.

On Thursday, Pardew and his staff followed Chief Scout Graham Carr in putting pen to paper on deals commiting them to the Magpies until 2020 and Llambias believes having such key personnel in place for the foreseeable future will allow the Club to put in place a long-term plan for success.

Although such long contracts are almost unheard of in top flight football, Llambias and owner Mike Ashley have seen the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger achieve consistently high league placings and win trophies over many years with Manchester United and Arsenal, and now want Newcastle to do the same.

In an interview with nufcTV, Llambias outlined his vision and said: "What we're trying to do is achieve stability.

"It's no accident that Manchester United with Sir Alex and Arsenal with Arsene Wenger have created success through stability.

"Over the last five years since we've had the Club, we've stabilised the Club as far as its finances are concerned and we're now trying to stabilise going forward on the pitch.

"By that, we've got the right man in Alan Pardew and we've got the right coaching staff around him so we're absolutely delighted that Alan has taken this deal."

Llambias added: "We absolutely are about long term - the contracts we give to our players, our Chief Scout Graham and now our manager - so we're delighted that the guys have came on board and followed us through this period.

"It's very exciting. They're very happy and we're very happy that they've committed themselves to eight years and we have.

"I think stability's the way forward. It's crazy when you hire a manager that you've got great belief in, then things go wrong over a period of time and you fire him.

"People need time to make things work and we think that Alan's the right man to give us that time to bring success to the Club.

"We would hope to bring some type of trophy to Newcastle. Alan's got that drive about him and that goal that he wants to bring something special to Newcastle."
