Although he was born in nearby Gateshead, Steve Stone never played for Newcastle - but he still enjoyed a great playing career.

Starting out with Nottingham Forest, the wide man spent ten years at the City Ground before going on to play for Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Leeds United.

He also won nine caps for England, scoring two goals and was part of the Three Lions' Euro 96 squad.

After coaching with Newcastle's Academy, he was appointed assistant reserve team coach in the summer of 2010 and following Alan Pardew's appointment, Stone was promoted to the first-team set-up.
