Freddie Woodman

Position:
Goalkeeper
Date signed:
1st August 2019

Freddie is a highly-rated goalkeeper who has been on the bench for the first team on a number of occasions, as well as playing for the Magpies in cup competitions.

A winner of the Jack Hixon award in 2015, he is one of a number of talented goalkeepers at United, and has been capped by England at every level up to and including the Under-21s, for whom he made his debut in their 1-0 win over Kazakhstan in October 2016.

The son of ex-Magpies goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman, Freddie joined Newcastle from Crystal Palace in 2013, establishing himself in the Under-18 team before featuring for what was then the Under-21 team in a friendly against York City while just 14 years old.

Along with fellow United youngster Adam Armstrong, Freddie was part of the England side that won the European Under-17 Championships in 2014 and the duo again made history in 2017 by winning the World Cup with England Under-20s.

Freddie has previously enjoyed loan spells with Hartlepool United, Crawley Town and Kilmarnock and having made the first team bench a number of times in the first half of the 2017/18 campaign, joined Aberdeen during the January transfer window until the end of that season.

He made his first team debut in the Emirates FA Cup, starting a third round tie against Luton Town. He then played in three FA Cup games in 2018/19, before joining Swansea City on loan for the following season after signing a new contract with the Magpies.
