North Shields-born Sean usually plays in the number ten role behind a striker, but is also capable of playing in a deeper-lying position in midfield.
He made his Under-18 debut against Arsenal in April 2014 and has progressed quickly since then, first stepping up to the Under-21s for a Northumberland Senior Cup tie with Team Northumbria in which he entered the fray as a substitute and grabbed a hat-trick.
In January 2017, Sean joined Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock on loan until the end of the 2016/17 season alongside teammates Freddie Woodman and Callum Roberts.
After returning to Tyneside, his signature was in demand once again and he signed for Blackpool on loan at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.
Scoring nine times in League One, he was given a chance in pre-season by Rafa Benítez in the following pre-season campaign and scored against St. Patrick's Athletic in United's opening friendly.
Sean made his competitive first team debut against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup in August 2018.
He made his Premier League debut just a few short months later, coming on as a second-half substitute against Liverpool at Anfield in December 2018.
Sean's first goal for the senior side followed in January 2019 when he opened the scoring in the first minute of a 4-2 (AET) victory over Blackburn Rovers in an Emirates FA Cup third round replay at Ewood Park.
