Goalkeeper Rob joined Newcastle United from boyhood club Charlton Athletic in 2011.
Born in Greenwich, South London, he joined Charlton’s academy from non-league side Erith Town at the age of 17 before being loaned to Bishop’s Stortford and Notts County during the 2004/05 campaign.
He enjoyed a breakthrough season the following year - playing a key role on loan at Accrington Stanley as the club secured promotion to the Football League.
Back at Charlton following a second spell at Stanley, he finally made his league debut for the Addicks in April 2008 and a first league start followed four months later.
Becoming first choice ‘keeper during the 2008/09 season, Rob’s career went from strength to strength and he was signed by United in August 2011.
After stepping in to cover injuries during the 2015/16 season, he performed magnificently and was cruelly denied a place at Euro 2016 following a serious knee injury while playing a warm-up match for Ireland in Dublin.
