Young Magpies' derby clash moved to Stadium of Light

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United Under-23s’ Premier League International Cup quarter-final tie with Sunderland will now be played at the Stadium of Light.

Wednesday night’s game had originally been due to take place at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare ground in Hetton-le-Hole, but will now be played at the Black Cats’ stadium, where kick-off remains at 7pm.

And the winners of that tie will host last year’s International Cup winners FC Porto – who beat Sunderland 5-0 in the 2017 final – in this year’s semi-finals.

Arsenal have been drawn at home to Villarreal in the other semi-final tie.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United Under-18s’ home fixture against Middlesbrough – which was due to take place on Saturday before being postponed because of the weather – will now take place on Tuesday, 10th April at the Little Benton Academy, with kick-off set for 11am.
