Yedlin included in US squad for European double-header

Written by Rory Mitchinson

The Magpies’ DeAndre Yedlin has been named in the United States’ 28-man squad for this month’s friendlies against England and Italy.

Of those called up by the Stars and Stripes, only veteran ‘keeper Brad Guzan – formerly of Aston Villa and Middlesbrough – has more caps to his name than Yedlin, despite the United defender still being just 25.

The US take on England at Wembley next Thursday, before travelling to Belgium to face Italy in Genk five days later.

Meanwhile, Freddie Woodman has been selected for England Under-21s’ double-header against Italy and Belgium.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side sealed their qualification for next summer’s European Championships in October, and step up their preparations with a game against the Azzurrini – the tournament’s hosts – in Ferrara on Thursday.

They then do battle with the Danes – who qualified as Group 3 winners – in Esbjerg, with the draw for the finals set to take place in a fortnight’s time.
