Woodman receives England U21 call-up

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been named in the England Under-21 squad for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Woodman, 20, has been called up by Aidy Boothroyd for the two fixtures, as the Young Lions come up against Holland and Latvia in the first qualifying round.

England travel to Doetinchem to face the Netherlands on Friday, 1st September, with that tie set for a 5pm BST kick-off at the Stadion De Vijverberg.

They follow that up with a home game against Latvia four days later on Tuesday, 5th September, with that game due to kick-off at 7.45pm BST at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium.

Woodman, who enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock last season, will be hoping to earn his second cap at Under-21 level, having made his debut for Boothroyd’s side against Kazakhstan in October 2016.
