Woodman called up to England Under-21 squad

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been named in the England Under-21 squad for their European Championship qualifying double-header this month.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side face Andorra at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium on Thursday, 11th October (6pm kick-off) before heading north of the border to play Scotland on Tuesday, 16th October, with kick-off set for 5.30pm at Tynecastle.

And Woodman, who has featured for United’s second string this term after enjoying a spell on loan at Aberdeen last term, is part of the Young Lions’ squad for the games.

The 21-year-old currently has six caps to his name at that level, having made his under-21 debut against Kazakhstan in October 2016.
