Wilson wanting win against Whites
Adam Wilson is hopeful Newcastle United Under-23s can achieve a league double over Leeds United ahead of Monday's Premier League 2 trip (kick-off 1pm GMT).
Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage's side travel to West Yorkshire to take on the Division Two leaders, who are currently unbeaten at home this term with nine wins out of ten matches.
The young Magpies were involved in a seven-goal thriller in their previous league meeting against Leeds, recovering from 3-0 down to seal a dramatic 4-3 triumph in November and Wilson, who has represented England at under-18 level, is determined to secure another victory against the Whites.
"I feel like everyone has been buzzing about it," the 20-year-old forward told nufc.co.uk. "It's been going well in training and I feel the people have a point to prove from the last game because we should have beaten Sunderland and I think a lot of the team think that too.
"Hopefully, we can start putting the chances away and let's hope Monday is the opportunity to do that.
"We're going there to try and win. We know Leeds have had a very good record at home but we'll be trying our best to come out on top.
"We have a lot of players coming back from injury, including myself, and we've been struggling throughout the season with numbers and other reasons but we are coming together now, from what I've seen in training.
"There is healthy competition within the squad because everyone wants to be in the starting eleven. In training, there is a lot more players and it's a bit more edgy with tackles flying around but it can only be a good thing."
After sustaining an ankle ligament injury in September, Wilson marked his first competitive start of the season with a goal in United's 1-1 draw at local rivals Sunderland on Monday.
The Newcastle-born forward has already faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a reoccurring thigh injury, which left the youngster sidelined for ten months in 2019, but is now aiming to contribute for the team on a regular basis after his return to full fitness.
He added: "The derbies aren't always the cleanest games of football. It's a battle but, overall, I think we had more chances and should have finished them off.
"I was pleased to help the team out because that's what I've been dying to do for so long, just trying to get back and help out to do what I can on the pitch.
"It gives me a lot of confidence, going forward, and I want to try and take that into the next games and aim to be consistent."
