Wilson to wear the famous number 9

Callum Wilson will wear Newcastle United's famous number 9 shirt for the 2021/22 Premier League season, the club can reveal.

Joelinton, who vacates the number 9 shirt, will switch to number 7, with the full squad numbers set to be finalised and confirmed soon.

The number 9 shirt has been worn by some of the club's greatest ever goalscorers, with Jackie Milburn, Alan Shearer, Hughie Gallacher, Malcolm Macdonald and many others weaving it into Magpies folklore over the years.

"They're both iconic shirts and we're both going to contribute a lot to the team," Wilson told NUFC TV. "You're playing for the badge on the front ultimately but you're wearing a special number on the back and it's just about doing it justice, playing well and helping the team."

For supporters who have already purchased personalised Callum Wilson or Joelinton home shirts, simply return the shirt with proof of purchase to the new St. James' Park club store and Castore will kindly supply a replacement in the same size with the updated squad number.
