Who's the man in the middle at Meadow Lane?

Written by Dan King

Alan Young will be the referee when Newcastle take on Notts County in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm BST).

The Cambridgeshire-based official is in his first season as a Football League referee, and after refereeing a Vanarama National League clash between Aldershot and Barnet on the opening weekend of the season he's taken charge of six League Two games, three matches in League One and one Checkatrade Trophy fixture so far this term.

In those ten outings, he has shown 37 yellow cards and two reds. He's already refereed Notts County once this season - he was the man in the middle when they lost 3-2 at Newport County in August - but it will be the first time he's taken charge of a match involving Newcastle United.

On Tuesday night, Young will be assisted by Matthew Jones and Christopher Husband. The fourth official will be Ravel Cheosiaua.
