United to face Manchester City in Carabao Cup third round

Newcastle United will face Manchester City at home in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies were beaten finalists at Wembley last season after reaching a cup final for the first time in 24 years and will look to go one better this term.

But first, they will need to beat Premier League champions and treble winners Manchester City at St. James' Park in the third round next month.

Eddie Howe's men and the Citizens both enter the competition at this stage, along with holders Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and West Ham United, who are all playing European football in 2023/24.

Newcastle United and Manchester City have met five times in the League Cup over the years, with City winning on three occasions - including the final in 1976.

But the Magpies won the last League Cup meeting between the two sides, when goals from Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko gave them a 2-0 fourth round victory at the Etihad Stadium in October 2014.

Carabao Cup third round ties will take place in the week commencing Monday, 25th September. Confirmation of the fixture date and subsequent ticket details will be announced on nufc.co.uk in due course.
