Under-23s learn Premier League Cup opponents

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Newcastle United Under-23s will face Swansea City, Burnley and Colchester United in Group D of the Premier League Cup.

The Swans – the competition’s current holders – are no strangers to Peter Beardsley’s side, having won the Premier League 2 Division Two at a canter last time out.

The Magpies’ two other opponents are both members of the Professional Development League – a level below. Though their first team ply their trade in the fourth tier of the senior game, the U’s’ Under-23s made it to the last eight of the Premier League Cup last season.

Newcastle progressed to the same stage, only to lose 1-0 to eventual finalists Reading.

Details for the Magpies’ fixtures will be confirmed in due course.
