Under-18s discover Third Round Youth Cup opponents

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Newcastle United’s Under-18s will travel to Bolton Wanderers in the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup.

The tie – which must take place by Saturday, 15th December – will likely be played at the Trotters’ Macron Stadium, with kick-off at 7pm.

The Magpies progressed to the last 16 of the competition last season, where they were edged out by Norwich City in extra time. The year before, they made it to the quarter finals, only to lose an eight-goal thriller to Tottenham Hotspur in front of nearly 3,000 fans at St. James’ Park.

Dave Watson’s side have found the going tough this term, losing nine of their 11 fixtures in all competitions. Having failed to pick up a single point since 1st September, they are currently second from bottom in the Under-18 Premier League North Division.

Bolton, meanwhile, ply their trade a level below the Magpies, and are currently mid-table in the Professional Development League. Managed by former Trotters player Nicky Spooner, they were knocked out by Middlesbrough in the Third Round last season.
