Thomson named in Scotland Under-17 squad

Magpies youngster Reagan Thomson has been named in the Scotland under-17s squad for their upcoming UEFA European Under-17 Championship Elite Round fixtures this month.

The 16-year-old, who joined Newcastle United on a scholarship contract from Queen's Park in January, has been included in Brian McLaughlin's squad for their matches against Slovakia, Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic, all of which are to be played on Scottish soil.

Bidding to qualify for the finals in May, the young Scots begin their qualifiers on Wednesday, 25th March against Slovakia at Partick Thistle's Firhill Stadium before facing Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic at St Mirren Park on Saturday, 28th March and Tuesday, 31st March respectively.

Thomson, who has five international caps to his name at under-17 level, scored a first goal for his country during a 1-1 draw against Hungary back in February.
