Thompson joins Northampton Town on loan

Teenage goalkeeper Max Thompson has joined League One side Northampton Town on loan until January 2024.

The 19-year-old shot-stopper, who has represented England at under-18 level, will link up with the Cobblers for the first-half of the 2023/24 campaign as he targets his professional debut with Jon Brady’s side.

Thompson, who made his debut for Newcastle’s under-21 side at the age of 16, made ten appearances in all competitions for United’s second-string last term and will aim to gain his first taste of senior football at the Sixfields Stadium.

Northampton gained automatic promotion from League Two last season following a third-placed finish in the English fourth tier and are in EFL Cup action on Tuesday, 8th August when they face Championship side Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium.
