Team news: Wilson starts against Liverpool

Callum Wilson returns to Newcastle United's starting line-up ahead of this evening's Premier League visit of Liverpool (kick-off 8pm).

The Magpies host Jürgen Klopp's champions at St. James' Park aiming to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat at Manchester City on Boxing Day and Wilson, an unused substitute at the Etihad Stadium, has been named in the starting eleven for Newcastle's final game of 2020.

Karl Darlow keeps his place in between the sticks although there is a place on the bench for Martin Dúbravka, who is named in a matchday squad for the first time since July, playing the full 90 minutes of Newcastle's final game of the 2019/20 campaign - a 3-1 home defeat against today's visitors.

There are no changes to the defence as Fabian Schär, Federico Fernández and Ciaran Clark remain in the heart of United's backline, with DeAndre Yedlin and Matt Ritchie occupying the flanks.

Matty Longstaff, who made his first start of the season against Man City, retains his place in central midfield alongside Issac Hayden, with Jacob Murphy and Joelinton likely to feature either side of the pair.

Miguel Almirón drops to the bench while Jonjo Shelvey, who missed Newcastle's Boxing Day trip to Manchester, also features on the substitutes' list.

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow, DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schär, Federico Fernández (c), Ciaran Clark, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Matty Longstaff, Jacob Murphy, Joelinton, Callum Wilson.

Substitutes: Martin Dúbravka, Emil Krafth, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Sean Longstaff, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almirón, Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll.
