Team news: Willems starts against Watford

Jetro Willems will make his first Premier League start for Newcastle United when they take on Watford at St. James’ Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

The Dutch international, who is on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, comes in for the injured Matt Ritchie, while there is also a first start of the campaign for Christian Atsu, whose cross provided Joelinton with his match-winning goal at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Martin Dúbravka is back between the sticks after Karl Darlow featured in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Leicester City, with Emil Krafth and Willems in the right and left wing-back roles respectively.

Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett will line up in central defence, with Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff in the middle of the park.

And Joelinton will have support from Atsu and Miguel Almirón in attack.

Darlow is named on the bench, along with Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernández and Ciaran Clark, who all started in midweek.

Ki Sung-yueng and Jonjo Shelvey provided midfield reinforcements, while Yoshinori Muto – who netted United’s goal against the Foxes – is also among the substitutes.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka; Emil Krafth, Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Jetro Willems; Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff; Christian Atsu, Joelinton, Miguel Almirón.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark, Ki Sung-yueng, Jonjo Shelvey, Yoshinori Muto.
