Team news: United unchanged for Villa visit

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Steve Bruce has named an unchanged starting XI as Newcastle United take on the head coach’s former club Aston Villa at St. James’ Park.

Impressive 3-0 winners over Sheffield United on Sunday, the Magpies will now look to repeat the trick against another of last season’s promoted sides, who currently find themselves in the Premier League’s bottom three.

Martin Dúbravka keeps his place between the sticks, with Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernández and Danny Rose making up a four-man backline.

Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden again start together in central midfield, with Matt Ritchie and Allan Saint-Maximin – both among the goals on Sunday – out on the flanks.

Joelinton was also on the scoresheet against the Blades, and fellow South American Miguel Almirón will look to provide support to the frontman once more this evening.

The Magpies’ long list of substitutes also remains unchanged; if needed, Bruce will be able to call upon the services of three different frontmen, with Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto all on the bench.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernández, Jamaal Lascelles, Danny Rose, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almirón, Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Emil Krafth, DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schär, Nabil Bentaleb, Valentino Lazaro, Yoshinori Muto, Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll.
