Team news: Ten changes for Forest clash

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benítez has shuffled his pack for Wednesday night’s visit of Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, making ten changes to his side.

There is a competitive home debut for winger Jacob Murphy, while youngsters Jamie Sterry and Dan Barlaser are also handed their starts of the season along with Karl Darlow, Jesus Gamez, Grant Hanley, Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons, Mohamed Diame and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Darlow comes in for Rob Elliot in goal against his former club, with United’s back four featuring Sterry, Chancel Mbemba – the only survivor from Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield – Hanley and Gamez.

Murphy will start on the right-hand side of midfield, with Barlaser partnering Saivet in the middle of the park and Aarons wide on the left.

And Diame will provide support for Mitrovic in attack.

Freddie Woodman is named on the bench for the first time this season, with Jamaal Lascelles, Achraf Lazaar and Javier Manquillo the defensive reinforcements.

Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie and recent signing Joselu – who could make his home debut for the club, if he is brought on – complete the list of substitutes for the second round clash with Mark Warburton’s side.

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Karl Darlow; Jamie Sterry, Chancel Mbemba, Grant Hanley, Jesus Gamez; Jacob Murphy, Dan Barlaser, Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons; Mohamed Diame; Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Achraf Lazaar, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie, Joselu.
