Team news: Sadio back in the side

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Massadio Haïdara makes his first start in exactly a year as Newcastle United take on Chelsea in the Fourth Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Frenchman lines up on the left of a five-man defence, with Spaniard Javier Manquillo on the opposite flank.

Karl Darlow continues in goal, with skipper Jamaal Lascelles sitting next to Ciaran Clark and Chancel Mbemba in the heart of the backline.

In midfield, Henri Saivet starts for the first time since the Magpies’ 3-2 win at West Ham United last month, a game in which he netted his maiden goal for the club. He joins Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey in the engine room.

Dwight Gayle has been chosen to lead the line, with Matt Ritchie expected to provide support in a central role.

On the bench, Rafa Benítez has plenty of attacking options to call upon if needed, including two wide-men – Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy – and forward Joselu.

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Chancel Mbemba, Ciaran Clark, Massadio Haïdara, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet, Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle.

Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Paul Dummett, DeAndre Yedlin, Mohamed Diamé, Christian Atsu, Jacob Murphy, Joselu.
