Team news: Roberts handed first start

Cal Roberts will make his first start for Newcastle United in their FA Cup third round replay against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

The 21-year-old – who made his bow against Leicester City in the same competition back in January 2015 – has been brought into the side by Rafa Benítez, as the Magpies look to see off the Championship outfit at Ewood Park.

Just as in the first leg, Freddie Woodman starts in goal, with Jamie Sterry, Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark – who captains the side – and Javier Manquillo in defence.

Switzerland international Fabian Schär also starts, with Sean Longstaff and Roberts lining up in midfield alongside Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie.

And Joselu will lead the line against Tony Mowbray’s men.

Young goalkeeper Nathan Harker is on the bench, along with DeAndre Yedlin and Jamaal Lascelles.

Isaac Hayden and Christian Atsu are also named among the substitutes, while Ayoze Pérez and Salomón Rondón can provide additional firepower if required.

Newcastle United: Freddie Woodman; Jamie Sterry, Federico Fernández, Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo; Fabian Schär; Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff, Cal Roberts, Matt Ritchie; Joselu.

Substitutes: Nathan Harker, DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles, Isaac Hayden, Christian Atsu, Ayoze Pérez, Salomón Rondón.
