Team news: Murphy starts on Ipswich return

Written by Tom Easterby

Former Ipswich Town striker Daryl Murphy will start against his old club as Newcastle United face the Tractor Boys at Portman Road on Saturday.

Murphy, who joined United from Ipswich last summer, replaces Aleksandar Mitrovic up front in one of five changes from the team Rafa Benitez sent out for Friday night's 1-1 draw at home to Leeds United.

There's two changes in the back four, as DeAndre Yedlin comes in for Vurnon Anita at right back and Grant Hanley is preferred to Chancel Mbemba at centre half. Captain Jamaal Lascelles, left back Paul Dummett and goalkeeper Karl Darlow all keep their places.

In midfield, Matt Ritchie starts on the right, with Jonjo Shelvey again partnering Isaac Hayden in the middle, but Christian Atsu is in for Yoan Gouffran on the left.

And Mohamed Diame is preferred to Ayoze Perez as support for lone frontman Murphy.

Rob Elliot is the substitute goalkeeper, while Mbemba and Jesus Gamez provide defensive backup.

Former Ipswich loanee Jack Colback is also named among the subs, with Perez, Gouffran and Mitrovic completing the list of players Benitez could call upon to make an impact from the bench if required.

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Karl Darlow; DeAndre Yedlin, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Grant Hanley, Paul Dummett; Matt Ritchie, Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Christian Atsu; Mohamed Diame; Daryl Murphy.

Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Jesus Gamez, Chancel Mbemba, Jack Colback, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic.
