Team news: Lascelles, Ritchie and Shelvey all start

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey are among those to start for Newcastle United as the Magpies take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Skipper Lascelles is joined by Jamie Sterry, Ciaran Clark and Achraf Lazaar at the back, with Karl Darlow in goal for the first time since last August’s Carabao Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Shelvey is deployed in the centre of the park along with Jack Colback and Isaac Hayden, with Ritchie and Jacob Murphy out wide. Yoshinori Muto has been chosen to lead the Magpies’ line.

Among a long list of substitutes are Paul Dummett, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schär, as well as youngsters Tom Allan, Owen Bailey, Elias Sørensen, Kelland Watts and Longstaff’s younger brother, Matty. Not one of the latter quintet have yet figured for United, either competitively or non-competitively.

Neither Martin Dúbravka nor Dwight Gayle have been named in the United squad.
