Team news: Four changes for Magpies at Turf Moor
Written by Rory Mitchinson
Andy Carroll and Joelinton start a game together for the first time as a much-changed Newcastle United side take on Burnley at Turf Moor.
Four players who started last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Southampton at St. James’ Park – Ciaran Clark, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almirón and Allan Saint-Maximin – haven’t travelled to Lancashire, nor has usual substitute goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
It means there is an unfamiliar look to Newcastle’s line-up in the attacking half of the pitch, with Carroll – United’s captain for the day – likely to start up front on his own, with Joelinton and Christian Atsu providing support from wider roles.
With Darlow also absent, there is a spot on the bench for Rob Elliot, who hasn’t played a single minute for the Magpies for more than two years.
