Team news: Four changes for City clash

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Rafa Benítez has made four changes to his starting line-up as Newcastle United take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this evening.

Javier Manquillo has been restored to the Magpies’ backline, coming in for DeAndre Yedlin on the right. The rest of the defence is unchanged, with Paul Dummett, skipper Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark all keeping their place in the side.

In midfield, Isaac Hayden starts for the first time since 30th December, while there is also a change out wide, with Jacob Murphy preferred to Matt Ritchie.

Joselu replaces Dwight Gayle up front, with the Spaniard likely to be supported by Mohamed Diamé, who can be expected to play in a more advanced role in the absence of Ayoze Pérez, who drops to the bench.

The 18 players in Newcastle’s squad this evening are the same as those against Swansea City a week ago, with Rob Elliot and Massadio Haïdara again among the list of substitutes.

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett, Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Jacob Murphy, Mohamed Diamé, Christian Atsu, Joselu.

Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Massadio Haïdara, DeAndre Yedlin, Mikel Merino, Matt Ritchie, Ayoze Pérez, Dwight Gayle.
