Team news: Duo return

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Fabian Schär and Ki Sung-yueng return to Newcastle United’s starting line-up for this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

Neither of the pair have started for the Magpies since last month’s thrilling victory over Everton at St. James’ Park; indeed, their XI is exactly the same as that which kicked off proceedings against the Toffees.

Schär takes over from Paul Dummett at the back and joins Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune in the heart of a five-man defence, with DeAndre Yedlin and Matt Ritchie out wide.

Ki has been preferred to Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park, where the South Korean partners Isaac Hayden – who, like Yedlin, has been passed fit.

Miguel Almiron, Ayoze Pérez and Salomón Rondón continue as United’s front three, with Christian Atsu and Yoshinori Muto among Rafa Benítez’s attacking options on the bench.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka, DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Ki Sung-yueng, Miguel Almirón, Ayoze Pérez, Salomón Rondón.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Federico Fernández, Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey, Christian Atsu, Yoshinori Muto.
